ABSTRACT

A novel Ayurvedic preparation, C-Kaps has been in use actively for the treatment of Hemiplegia for the past several years by the ayurvedic physicians of Dubagunta Bhasakara Rao Hospital of Kavali. C-Kaps (Sannipatabhiravi, Vatavidwamsini, Pratapalankeswaram, Vatagajamkusam, Laghuvatarakshasam, Mahayogaraja Guggulu, Chedukattulu and Saffron) which contains 56 herbs and minerals,  acts on neuromuscular system to alleviate Vata (one of the body humors) from body. Toxicological studies were made on rabbits and found that the medicine was nontoxic. In our earlier studies the effect of C-Kaps on the basic constitution of patients and various hematological & physiological parameters were presented (Phani Kumar et. al., 1996).

The present study mainly deals with the pathological and biochemical tests, which were conducted on rabbits to find the effect of C-Kaps on some biochemical constituents of different tissues. Gross morphology and tissue examination of Liver, Brain, Kidney, Heart, Muscle, Lung and Intestines were carried in control and experimental rabbits. The results showed that there are no histopathalogical changes in the experimental rabbits after treatment with C-Kaps for 60 days. Significant improvement in total protein content in liver and brain were observed in experimental rabbits.

Our studies revealed that the balanced application of various bhasmas and herbs along with the Panchakarma treatment showed tremendous positive response in these patients. The efficacy of C-Kaps in treatment of hemiplegia is discussed. These results indicate that C-Kaps does not have any adverse effects on human health and it can be used as a suitable remedy for the treatment of hemiplegia.
